Apartment transformation
Nørrebro, Copenhagen, Denmark, Private Residence
Dating back to 1904, this Nørrebro apartment stands as a testament to the neighborhood’s architectural legacy. Tasked with preserving its historic essence while infusing modern functionality, my design vision aimed to illuminate the space, creating inviting areas for communal gatherings centered around the kitchen and dining spaces.
Incorporating natural elements like Douglas fir alongside practical steel surfaces, I sought to balance warmth with functionality, ensuring both aesthetic appeal and practical utility. A pivotal aspect of the renovation involved the creation of a contemporary bathroom concept. Seamlessly integrated into the apartment’s layout, a bespoke floor-to-ceiling cabinet serves as a versatile hub, housing the bathroom facilities while also catering to practical needs such as storage for outdoor gear and discreet access to kitchen utilities.
With the transformation complete, the apartment now radiates a welcoming ambiance, drawing guests to the heart of the home—the expansive kitchen. Here, culinary experiences unfold amidst shared laughter and conviviality, honoring the rich architectural heritage of Nørrebro through a modern lens.
